2023 has seen a huge growth in layflat hose sales at Winster, especially in the second half of the year. variants have experienced high demand for use in Landscaping, Agriculture and Drainage, across a wide variety of reseller customers.
Commenting on the increase in demand, Val Gardner, Managing Director of Winster said “The continued increase in frequency and severity of extreme weather events, means more end users need to buy pumps and hoses from our resellers to move water in both dry and wet periods across the year. The sequence of storms at the end of 2023 and in the first week of 2024 have further increased demand for l hose at our customers, especially in the Pump and Plant sector.”
Despite the sharp increase in demand, Winster were able to cope well with increased orders from existing and new customers in 2023. “Our long-term relationships with key suppliers helps us to secure the manufacturing capacity and shipping priority we need to keep our customers happy.” explained Val. “In addition, our 28,000 ft2 warehouse enables us to hold a large quantity of the fast-moving items like layflat hose which helps us build a buffer against unpredictable demand. The final piece in the supply jigsaw has been collaboration with key customers so we can forward plan our orders and stock as much as possible.”
Winster offer two types of layflat hose; both are duty and ideally suited to move clean or dirty water. The hoses are tough and durable with polyester filament reinforcement and can be used all year round in temperatures of -10°C to +60°C. The blue layflat hose is available in 9 different internal diameters from 25mm (1 inch) to 203mm (8 inches) and in 4 standard lengths from 10m to 100m. Blue layflat hose can handle a working pressure of up to 4BAR / 60 PSI (depending on hose diameter) with a safety factor (link to Burst Pressure article) of 3:1, meaning it can handle short pressure peaks of up to 12 BAR / 180 PSI.
Yellow layflat hose is very similar to the blue layflat, but has a higher working pressure rating, capable of handling up to 6 BAR / 90 PSI, also with a 3:1 safety factor, meaning it can handle pressure peaks of up to 18 BAR / 270 PSI. The yellow layflat is available in 7 internal diameters from 25mm (1 inch) to 153mm (6 inches) and is available in 4 standard lengths from 10m to 100m.
One of the key benefits of layflat hose is that it is easy to store and transport with minimum space usage when not in use which makes it ideal for infrequent use to pump water or other light liquids. Full specification sheets for both products can be found on the Winster website.
